In the heat of battle, with enemies watching closely and swords ready to strike, the believers still heard the call to prayer. It was during one of the expeditions of Prophet Muhammad ï·º when fear filled the desert, and every heartbeat seemed louder than the clash of weapons. Yet, in this moment, Allah revealed a timeless ruling that showed the strength of faith: Salat al-Khawf – the Prayer in Times of Fear.

The Reason for Revelation
When the time for prayer arrived during battle, the Companions were concerned: “How can we pray while the enemy may attack us?” Then Allah revealed in Surah An-Nisa (4:102):
“When you are among them and lead them in prayer, let one group of them stand with you, taking their arms. When they have prostrated, let them go to the rear and let another group come forward, who have not yet prayed, and let them pray with you…”
This verse established the ruling of Salat al-Khawf, showing that even in the most dangerous situations, prayer can never be abandoned.

A Prayer Mixed with Courage
The Prophet ï·º divided his Companions into two groups. The first group prayed with him while the second kept watch against the enemy. Then, they switched roles. It was a moment of balance between worship and vigilance, between swords and supplications.
The enemies were astonished:
“How do they pray while we stand ready to attack? Their devotion is stronger than fear itself!”
